Flying coach is always going to be an option on international flights; however, Air France has taken it to another level – literally. Effective in the fall of 2009, the airline will offer what is being known as the Premium Voyageur class.
On the airline’s fleet of 777-300ER aircraft, they will replace 50 economy seats with 28 Premium Voyageur seats; the seat will feature a fixed shell with a 48-cm width, 97-cm pitch, 123 degree recline and a 10-cm wide leather armrest. Entertainment includes a 26-cm TV screen, and the control box for the in-flight entertainment system will be integrated into the seat itself.
In addition, passengers of this class will receive the same in-flight meal choices as in economy, but will enjoy upgrades including a travel kit, bottle of water, noise-reducing headphones, feather pillow and pure new wool blanket. On the ground, there will be priority check-in desks, a 30-kg baggage allowance and priority baggage delivery. Also keep in mind that frequent-flyer members will receive 25% more miles than a full-fare economy ticket.
